Q: Will we share Mana with other guests?

A: Mana is a private sailing charter which means the boat will be reserved exclusively for your party. And to ensure a truly luxurious experience, Mana is the only sailing catamaran operating in Newport that limits each private charter to a maximum of six guests.

Q: What itinerary can we expect during our three hour private charter?

A: Our charters include sailing from Newport Harbor and into Narragansatt Bay, past Fort Adams, Hammersmith Farm, Castle Hill, the 1890 lighthouse and along a truly breathtaking stretch of New England coastline. After an hour of sail we anchor Mana in a secluded cove so guests may swim, SUP or lounge on our expansive foredeck. The charter continues with a final sail along Fort Wetherill State Park and Jamestown towards the iconic Newport Bridge before a tour around Newport Harbor to view the mega yachts berthed along her shoreline.

Q: Do captains change with each charter?

A: Every Mana sailing charter is personally captained and operated by the owners – Neville and Catherine – so you always know precisely who will be at the helm.

Q: What clothing would you recommend?

A: Summers in Newport are a delight! But ocean breezes can be cool so perhaps bring a warm layer. Please wear deck shoes (white soles) or, as is a yachting tradition, you will be requested to remove shoes when you step aboard. If you would like to swim from Mana, please bring a towel, and don’t forget a hat and a little sunscreen!

Q: May I bring my own food and refreshments?

A: Absolutely! Mana is a BYO charter so guests are welcome to bring their own culinary selections, a bottle of champagne, Prosecco or pinot to celebrate their special occasion. But sorry no liquor (rum, whisky, vodka etc.) is allowed.

Q: What is provided with each private charter?

A: Mana comes fully prepared with all tableware, serving essentials, napkins, a cooler, ice, champagne bucket; indoor/outdoor seating and dining areas; Bluetooth enabled speakers; lounging cushions; comfortable beanbags; and the opportunity to swim at anchor, SUP or simply lounge in a hammock.

Complimentary filtered, sparkling water, gourmet snacks and a selection of fine teas are available with every charter.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: Guests may cancel a charter up to 72 hours before their scheduled departure time and receive a 100% refund. Cancellations made within 24 hours – 72 hours of a scheduled charter will receive a 50% refund. Unfortunately, cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled charter time will not receive a refund unless the charter is cancelled by the captain due to unsafe weather conditions, safety or unforeseen issues.

We do sail in overcast and light rain conditions, but Mana’s covered outside lounge area remains both cozy and completely dry if it rains while still providing stunning panoramic views! Please note that we are unable to reassign a charter reservation to another time or date.

Q: How does Mana support the oceans?

A: During Neville and Catherine’s world voyage they donated 100% of all payments from every published article and story to Oceana – a charity dedicated to the preservation and restoration of our ocean’s and its valuable marine life. Neville and Catherine continue to support Oceana today by dontating a percentage from every Mana charter, and by offering two Newport charters for auction to help raise money for this important charity.

Q: Did they really sail around the world?

A: Yes. From 2007 – 2021 Neville and Catherine spent fourteen years exploring the world under sail and are among the most experienced couples offering private charters in Newport, Rhode Island. Not only can Neville and Catherine share stories of Newport’s gilded history, but for those wishing to learn how to sail – whether to Block Island or Bermuda, or to embark on a voyage around the world of their own – they can even offer a little practical advice to help get you there.
